Canard Vineyard has been creating hand crafted wines in Napa Valley since 1984. Each year they produce nine single vineyard wines, each one expressing the remarkable complexities of the estate’s unique terroir. ALL of Canard Wines are “Allocated” to either their members or to select restaurants. Their wines are produced from sustainably grown, dry farmed grapes which are skillfully transformed into the finest expression of each varietal. Canard Vineyard is dedicated to creating wines of distinction with an emphasis on quality over quantity. These are genuinely “small batch” wines with very few cases made each year. This is a very rare opportunity to experience these wines.

Canard Wine Expert, Adam Fox, we be discussing each wine as it is served as well as sharing the unique history of Canard Vineyard with attendees. Situated on the Northwest corner of Dunaweal Lane and the Silverado Trail in Calistoga, the twenty-five acre property is considered a historic vineyard in Napa Valley. The estate was the original homestead of Reason P. Tucker, who gained notoriety for leading the efforts to rescue the survivors of the ill-fated Donnor Party.
Coucher de Soleil Rose’, 2018: This beautifully perfumed Rosé is a blend of whole cluster pressed Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Zinfandel. Bright notes of wild strawberries and citrus on the palate give way to a rich mouthfeel and a long finish. It’s soft hue is reminiscent of a pink sky at dusk which gives it the name Coucher de Soleil, or “Sunset” in French. This is a red wine drinkers rosé. ONLY 200 cases produced.
Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2015: We use deficit irrigation ( dry farming ) to create intensely concentrated fruit with more complexity, richness and character. Very few vineyards still use these difficult farming practices today due to the low yield, but it takes great sacrifice to make great wine. We think you will agree the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is worth the effort. Shows black and red fruits, a touch of chocolate and notes of Christmas spice on the nose. The mouthfeel is rich with blackberry pie, currents, smoked meats and hints of sage brush. ONLY 500 cases produced.
Estate Zinfandel, 2016: From one of the oldest vineyards in Napa Valley, this elegant expression of Zinfandel is harvested from our 85 and 100 year old blocks. Structured, balanced and layered with great depth and flavor, this is not your typical Zinfandel. Known as the great converter, this wine often changes people’s perception of how incredible Zinfandel can truly be.
ONLY 458 cases produced.
Adam’s Blend, 2015: This Cabernet Franc dominant blend “bridges” the two styles from the Left and Right Bank of Bordeaux and expresses all the finesse and elegance indicative to this noble grape. Medium bodied with notes of violets, rose petals, red fruits and spice makes this wine incredibly versatile and food friendly. A smooth delicate entry yields to great structure and a long finish of ground rose buds, cocoa, rhubarb, sweet cranberries and cherries. ONLY 223 cases produced.
The Rescuer, 2015: We pay homage to Pomerol on the Right Bank in Bordeaux with this extraordinary blend of 90 % Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Plush, luscious and incredibly rich. Ultra fat mid palate yields to a silky smooth finish of cinnamon toast, fresh blueberries and coffee that will stay with you for a long time.
Throwback, 2015: This blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc is a “Throwback” to wines that were being produced in Napa on the 1970s when there was a bit more Old World influence from the Left Bank of Bordeaux. It’s the perfect harmony of French restraint and spectacular Napa Valley fruit. This massive wine has great body and structure, yet fine integrated tannins with notes of spice, red current, black cheery and cedar. ONLY 225 cases produced.
Reserve Cabernet, 2015: Vineyard specific, barrel select and crafted with the utmost case from vine to bottles, this beautiful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon is made exclusively from the Clone 7 block. We create a limited release of reserve wine to highlight the unique terroir and showcase our winemaker’s artistry. This is “Old School” Napa Valley winemaking at it’s finest.
Reserve Zinfandel, 2015: Made exclusively from our ancestral 135 year old vines, the Reserve Zinfandel is the pinnacle of what can be done with this varietal if it is treated with the utmost respect. So we make this wine exactly like we make our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Open top, barrel fermented and aged in 100% new French oak. These century old vines do not yield much, but what they do produce makes an extraordinary bottle of wine.
