Great wines often come with great stories. The wines we choose to present in our complimentary “Wine Stations” sampling machines all have stories to tell. Check out these two new wines and remember, you always get to “Try before you buy.”
Yealands “Single Vineyard” Sauvignon Blanc, 2017, New Zealand: Our Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours. This wine is a blend of two different blocks on the property – one warmer, sheltered inland block and a coastal block. The wine brings together in harmony the diverse spectrums of the blocks; the warmer site contributing the expressive aromatics and the cooler site giving the mineral backbone and length.
Shannon Ridge, “Urgency” Red Blend, 2015, California: Owner and visionary leader of Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, Clay Shannon has transformed his ranch into one of the agricultural icons of California’s North Coast, and in doing so is changing the face and substance of grape-growing in the USA.
Clay grew up on a farm in Healdsburg in Sonoma County. He began his career as a vineyard manager in St. Helena, traveling the wine regions of California managing the company’s vineyards. A short time later he started his own vineyard management company, growing grapes for some of the top wineries and fruit companies in Northern California. Aromas of berries and dried herbs, almonds and vanilla with a hint of spice. Flavor is of red and black fruits with a juicy mid-palate.
